Wooden Furniture
At the beginning of the last year Norfolk Oak started selling kitchen furniture; our first pieces were made to order and received so enthusiastically by our customers we decided to design our own range of beautiful kitchen and dining furniture.
Although this was the start of our adventure in furniture, the mill in Ohio has been producing furniture components for the huge number of Amish cabinet makers in the region for over a decade. This area in Ohio is unique for furniture production in America; it has the largest Amish community in the world, and within that, the largest and finest collection of Amish cabinet makers in the world. Apart from farming, furniture is the principle business of the Amish, as the creation of beautiful handmade furniture perfectly reflects their cultural heritage and outlook on life. Each Amish workshop tends to specialise in one particular type or style of furniture, which has, in most cases, been passed down from father to son for generations. So it is quite usual to buy different styles of chairs from more than one workshop for example, as indeed we do.
The mill has been supplying these local craftsmen for years with many of the components they need but do not have the specialist equipment to make cost effectively, such as table tops, chair bottoms, legs etc. So it was a natural progression to ask them to make special pieces for us. Guided by their abundant experience and enthusiasm, we have started to make a range of Shaker style furniture which will not only last for countless generations thanks its quality and construction, but be treasured for its elegance and timelessness.
In this way we have evolved a partnership with a number of small specialist workshops who understand the attention to detail we demand, but for them is actually just a day to day reality of producing beautiful furniture.
We started with Chairs for the simple reason that when we went to buy some chairs for our office, we found them so elegant and beautiful we knew there would be a demand for them here in Britain and Europe. We are currently producing a range of Free Standing Kitchen Furniture, Wooden Stools, End Grain Worktops, Kitchen and Dining Tables and office desks, which follow the same style of elegant simplicity, allowing the beauty of the wood to define the piece.
In addition to our own range, we can also make Bespoke Pieces, with a lead time of only ten to twelve weeks from order to delivery.
